The Deceptive Nature of the Independent Female MP

The independent female MP is politics’ greatest illusion. Voters, desperate to break free from corrupt party machines, look at her and see a fierce, principled outsider. In reality, she operates on the exact nature of a cat: vocal, aloof, and purely self-interested.

A cat howls loudly at the door until it is let inside. On the campaign trail, she does the same. She attacks the backroom deals, mocks the establishment, and demands to be heard. Frustrated voters mistake this noise for courage.

Then she wins, and the trap springs shut.

The establishment knows exactly how to neutralize her. They do not fight her; they flatter her. They give her a platform, a microphone, and a comfortable corner office. The moment she steps inside that office, the rebellion ends.

She looks around the room, sees her name on the door, and decides that because her independence has been accommodated, the fight is over. She mistakes her personal elevation for a public victory. Her ego is vindicated, the cream has been poured, and the snarling outsider curls up to purr in the warmth of institutional favor.

She mistakes her personal elevation for a public victory. The cream has been poured

From that corner office, total isolation sets in. Cut off from the actual needs and struggles of ordinary people, she absorbs the mindset of the ruling class. Because the system made room for her, she concludes the system works. She stops attacking the establishment and becomes its fiercest defender, sneering at any outsider who dares disrupt the order that now feeds her.

  • Howl. Loud at the door, mistaken for courage.
  • Flatter. A platform, a microphone, a corner office.
  • Purr. Personal elevation passes for public victory.
  • Defend. The system made room, so the system works.

Ultimately, her failure is hardwired. Leadership requires pack loyalty: the ability to fight shoulder to shoulder, sacrifice for the group, and build enduring coalitions for the nation. Cats do not hunt in packs. They are solitary creatures driven only by personal comfort and individual territory. A solo hunter cannot lead a society. She can only secure her own meal, retreat to her private perch, and leave the people who elected her out in the cold.
